What would software developed for seven generations from now look like?

@emsenn I don't really know, but today's software isn't *anywhere* close! We're lucky if it lasts half a decade...

The best I know is that we should make sure the data lasts that long even if the software doesn't, and if you do so that might help the software last longer as well. As librarians always have.

SQLite does a great job here! And the relatively recent popularity of sandboxing can work against this.

@alcinnz Follow-up question, if you don't mind:

The value comes from an approach to ecology. Do you think it's applicable to software?

@emsenn I certainly think it's important for data to be able to last that long, whether any particular dataset is important to preserve is another questions.

As for software, I'm not sure.
